BARCA Archaeology Ltd. Archaeological Research and Consultancy

BARCA Archaeology Ltd was founded by Dr Peter Campbell and Dr Lisa Briggs with a simple goal in mind - to bring the depths of human history within reach of archaeologists and interested members of the public around the world. We focus on fieldwork, education and outreach. At BARCA Archaeology, we believe sharing the results of our research with the wider world is a key aspect of our field. We conduct archaeological fieldwork projects on land and underwater, through survey and excavation. By finding lightening-fast, low-cost solutions for archaeological fieldwork we are committed to democratising research, deep-water survey and underwater excavation, so that our shared heritage can be studied, preserved, and experienced by all.

At BARCA Archaeology Ltd., we believe that building a strong and supportive community is key to our success. By providing training and fieldwork opportunities for emerging archaeologists, we are ensuring that the next generation of industry leaders are as passionate about submerged cultural heritage as we are! Through outreach events in Italy, Greece, the UK and the USA we raise awareness of our shared maritime history and why it must be protected.

Our expertise in archaeological research allows us to offer a wide range of services. Our Research Associates engage in fieldwork and outreach activities around the world. We conduct marine geophysics including Side Scan Sonar (SSS), Multibeam Echosounder (MBES), and target inspection through diver survey and ROV operations. For terrestrial sites, our Mavik 3 Pro-Res drone can rapidly create record archaeological features in 4K. For recovered artefacts, we conduct ancient DNA analysis and organic residue analysis of finds by working with our partners at the best laboratories in the world.
